USVI Department of Tourism Fantastic Flight Promotion

DEPARTMENT OF TOURISM’S “ST. CROIX FANTASTIC FLIGHT” RETURNS

~ Promotion represents continued commitment to St. Croix air service ~

St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, August 31, 2009 – The U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Tourism has announced the return of its St. Croix Fantastic Flight promotion to entice potential visitors to St. Croix over the coming months.

Visitors who book between September 1 and October 5, 2009 for travel to St. Croix between September 1 and November 15, 2009 will receive a $150 per-person airfare credit and a fourth night free at participating hotels.

The new offer is a key element in the Department’s strategy to ensure continued air service to St. Croix, and will leverage recent commitments for increased air service to the island this fall.

Through the ongoing efforts of the Governor’s Office, Virgin Islands Port Authority and Department of Tourism, American Airlines has recently agreed to extend its daily service to St. Croix from Miami at a time when seasonal reductions have historically resulted in service three days a week.

The St. Croix Fantastic Flight offer was developed to ensure sustained load factors on the Miami flight and represents an added investment to ensure the continuation of daily service to St. Croix, and to keep the destination competitive with others in the region. The offer also aims to address the barrier of higher fares for travel to St. Croix compared to St. Thomas and other Caribbean destinations that enjoy an ample supply of carriers and airlift relative to demand.

“We’re pleased to introduce this offer at a time when we can help support American Airlines’ continued daily service to St. Croix this fall and added service from both American Airlines and Delta Air Lines this winter,” said Tourism Commissioner Beverly Nicholson-Doty. “We remain committed to finding ways to underscore the need for continued and increased service to the island.”

Hotels participating in the St. Croix Fantastic Flight promotion include: The Buccaneer, Carambola Beach Resort & Spa, Chenay Bay Beach Resort, Club St. Croix, Colony Cove, Company House Hotel, Divi Carina Bay Resort, Hibiscus Beach Resort, Hotel Caravelle, King Christian Hotel, The Palms at Pelican Cove and Sand Castle on the Beach.

The package is based on double occupancy, applies to new bookings only and cannot be combined with other promotions. St. Croix Fantastic Flight must be booked through one of the following participating tour operators: AA Vacations, CheapCaribbean.com, Delta Vacations, Expedia, GoGo Worldwide Vacations and Travelocity.

What guests are saying about The Buccaneer St. Croix

Recent guests to The Buccaneer St. Croix have experienced the legend and you can too!

NeedtoVac from Minnesota writes:

“We visited this resort for lunch and drinks while staying on the island. The bartender has been there for years and has even created some of his own drinks! We split a hamburger basket – plenty of food for two in the heat! The beach has plenty of palm trees for shade/lounging. If we go back to the Island we would like to stay there. The compound is big with golf course and lots of rooms. Some are waterfront most are not. If you stay at the Buccaneer and sign up for water activities, most places will pick you up on the dock they have built in the bay in front of the restaurant.”

Exployer2b writes:

“For our 28th anniversary my husband and I stayed at the Buccaneer during the week of Oct 5, 2008. It was off season, but that didn’t seem to matter to the staff. Everyone was GREAT!!!!! The resort has a very classy, but extremely friendly feel. The food in the Terrace restaurant is wonderful and the head chef took time to discuss preparing my dinner to go along with my low carb diet. The nightly music is great and walking the well kept beaches is great. Getting to Turtle beach is a rigourous walk, but the views on the way are worth it not to mention seeing the trails the turtles leave behind. We realized we didn’t take advantage of everything the resort had to offer, so we are going back this Oct. for our 29th anniversary.”

Stay at the The Buccaneer for the St. Croix Scenic 50

Ultra Distance Marathon Comes to St. Croix

St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands – August 18, 2009 – The St. Croix Scenic 50 starts at 5 am on January 24, 2010 and is a fifty mile endurance run from Fort Christiansvaern to Fort Frederik and back, ending at The Bucaneer’s Mermaid Beach. This race represents the first “ultramarathon” (anything over a full 26.2 mile marathon) held on St. Croix and a new challenge for endurance athletes on island and around the world.

From water’s edge to mountaintop to water’s edge and back, the St. Croix Scenic 50 promises to be as challenging as it is beautiful with views of the whole island.

The course: Starts in Christiansted at the historic fort and leaves town heading west towards Salt River. Runners will then climb Scenic East Drive and follow the Scenic Drive, across the top of The Beast, descending by Ham’s Bluff. The course runs along the shoreline to Frederiksted, looping through town before returning runners along the same route back to Christiansted. Finally, runners continue east past Fort Christiansvaern to The Buccaneer, finishing on the beach.

Participants will be supported through a number of aid stations approximately 5-6 miles apart. The event will feature an early start for those who may need more than the 13.5 hours allotted and will also be open to 2 person relay teams. The St. Croix Scenic 50 will conclude with an awards banquet and a whole lot of tired feet.

The Buccaneer Golf at its best

From Urbanbearmarketingblog.com:

“My trip to the Caribbean was really cool this time. I love playing golf, and when my business partner suggested we go to some Caribbean island on a golfing vacation I was quite enthusiastic. We decided to go to St. Croix in the Virgin Islands as a lot of our acquaintances had talked about the fabulous golf course at the Buccaneer.”

“The golf course at the Buccaneer was all we expected and more. It had a fabulous scenic layout, and also had a trio of holes that ran across the resort’s three beaches. The golf course as I have mentioned earlier was fantastic. On the first day we were there, we met this interesting person, Bob, who was just back from a trip to the Cayman Islands. He had stayed at the majestic Ritz-Carlton and was talking quite highly about the golf course at the hotel. My business partner, a bit of a flamboyant personality, had by then downed a couple of drinks at the hotel. He challenged Bob to a round of golf the next day. Bob meekly accepted the challenge.”

“The next morning, we all met at the lobby and headed for the golf course. Russell was no match for Bob, who turned out to be an excellent golfer. After his loss, Russell sheepishly agreed to buy all of us a round of drinks that evening. Over drinks, we discovered that Bob was a professional golfer and was at the Buccaneer to check out their golf course. Russell, who fortunately was sober, apologized about the goof-up and insisted that we play a round of golf again the next day. The only difference this time would be that Bob would give us as many tips as possible on playing a great round of golf.”

Look what guests are saying about their wedding at The Buccaneer St. Croix

“This resort is tucked away on the island of St. Croix and an ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC place for a destination wedding. Any couple considering a tropical destination should speak with Carolyn at The Buccaneer. She was our wedding planner for our June,2009 wedding with 20+ guests and I can say without hesitation that she made my dream wedding possible. Every small detail was taken care of and all the planning was done via e-mail/computer. From a bride’s standpoint this wedding was everything I wanted it to be, without any of the drama or disasterous planning to deal with–Carolyn took care of us and our families. I highly highly recommend The Buccaneer and their special events staff.

(I didn’t go in to detail about the Flowers from Gloria at Antillies Lillies, our awesome DJ Erik , and the Catering and perfect Reception put together by Dennis at the Buc –however, ALLLLLLLL of them surpassed our expectations. And again Carolyn was able to put me in contact with them and coordinate everything beautifully)”
